The purification of the water can be done by several methods, manually or by chemical treatments. To purify the water means to eliminate any waste or organisms of the water that can be harmful to the human being, converting it into drinking water. There are some of these processes that can be done manually at home.
Formerly, for the purification of the water, homemade filters were made in faucets and pipes, which improved the water quality and helped the environment, avoiding buying bottled water.
After knowing what purification of water consists of, today’s ITV article will explain the different purification processes.
Boil the water to eliminate microorganisms
To eliminate any organism that inhabits the water through the process of boiling, it is necessary that it boils for at least a minute. After the completion of this process, it is likely that the water acquires a strange taste, which can be improved by changing the water containers and adding a little salt for each liter of water.
Water purification by sunlight
This is one of the simplest purification processes known. This requires that transparent bottles of water be filled and exposed to sunlight for at least five or six hours. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays causes the death of living organisms in water, or preventing them from reproducing. This method of water purification is called SODIS.
Use of natural chemicals to treat water
There are several chemical elements, which are ideal for purifying water: chlorine and iodine. These are present in specific tablets, which are marketed in the market and serve to purify the water perfectly.
The process consists of adding one of these pills in a container with the water you want to purify. This mixture should be allowed to stand between 30 minutes and 4 hours so that the water is completely potable, also depending on the amount of water you want to purify. It is convenient, once this process is finished, to let the water aerate for about an hour and to change its containers.
Mounting an osmotizer
This system of water purification manages to eliminate practically all of the microorganisms in the water, with an effectiveness of 99%. The place of installation must be taken into account, usually under the sink of some furniture attached to it, hidden so that it is not visible to the naked eye.
Some of the advantages of installing an osmosis equipment at home are:
- Drink pure water at all times from the house tap
- Reduce the risk of diseases or infections with the elimination of organisms that can inhabit the water
- Systems easy to install and practically invisible
- Save money in the purchase of bottled water, for which you can support the improvement of the environment
- Improve the taste of water that comes directly from the tap, as well as being healthier
This process uses the pressure to eliminate these residues in layers:
- Stones
- Gross sand
- Fine sand
- Coal
This video shows the creation of the homemade osmotizer, which is explained in more detail and with images that we have previously commented:
These are the most used methods to purify the water by hand, so we can avoid the purchase of bottled water, favoring our domestic economy and the environment.
And you? Do you know of any process that we have not discussed for water purification, or have you ever used one?
